MOOSE 2 HAS A NEW FAMILY MOOSE2 is a 2 yr old silver and black neutered male GSD. He is a Moose at 105 pounds. He is a happy dog in need of a person and play, love and direction and some more basic skills training. He is social and was tested by Farley and after a bit both were fine. He is a large dog who sheds a lot with a handsome face, perfect personality and awaiting a family. He is housebroken, utd on shots and hw neg.
HIS FOSTER WROTE:
Moose is a playful, affectionate, and caring dog. He is very obedient and sensitive to the desires of his family. Moose’s best environment would be with a loving family to play and interact with him outdoors with a fenced yard, but indoors with his family that he will look after, at night together. Moose loves his squeaky toys and will play both fetch and return and keep away with them!
He has had some training: Along with being fully house-trained, he sits when offered a treat, likes to shake hands, and he “lays down”. He’s a very loving dog and will bond quickly with his new family, but it might take a few days for him to adjust. Moose also likes other dogs and will initiate playtime with them as well. He has a lot of love to give and wants to receive.
Behavioral Assessment for Moose
General Information:
• Name: Moose
• Approximate Weight: 100 pounds
• Sex: Male (Neutered)
• Vaccination Status: Up to date
• Surrender Status: Signed over as a boarding waiver by the individual who dropped him off.
Temperament and Behavior:
Moose is a very sweet, even-tempered dog with excellent adaptability in new situations:
• Dog Friendliness: Moose is dog-friendly and interacts well with both large and small dogs. He exhibits a firm but non-aggressive demeanor when meeting other dogs, which is normal for a male of his size and breed.
• Obedience: Moose is eager to please and responds well to commands. He shows a willingness to learn and engage with his handler.
• Crate Behavior: Exceptional crate manners. He willingly enters the crate and remains calm, with no whining, barking, or destructive behaviors.
• Fence Behavior: Moose does not test the fence line and shows no signs of attempting to escape. He enjoys exploring the yard, sniffing, and marking his surroundings.
• Nighttime Behavior: Moose displayed some wariness at night due to being in a new environment with a new person. This is likely related to unfamiliarity with his handler’s body language and routine rather than an eyesight issue.
Interactions and Testing:
• Food Aggression: None observed. Moose shows no signs of aggression when given food.
• Toy Aggression: None observed, even during group play and fetch.
• Leash Walking: Moose walks well on a leash and is calm when loading into and out of a car.
• Livestock Exposure: Moose has seen livestock (pony and horse) from behind a fence and showed no reaction other than mild curiosity.
Future Assessments:
• In-Home Behavior: Testing is planned to assess Moose’s behavior indoors, including any tendencies for counter-surfing or anxiety.
• Extended Food Testing: Further evaluation will ensure no food guarding or resource aggression.
Summary:
Moose is a fantastic, well-rounded dog who would thrive in a home looking for a calm, loyal companion. While he enjoys outdoor activities like fetch and a leisurely walk, he is not an overly active German Shepherd. He would do well in a family home as a relaxed “fireplace dog” who enjoys moderate exercise and plenty of love.
Adoption Potential:
Moose’s excellent temperament, adaptability, and obedience make him a highly adoptable dog.
Sincerely,
