PUPPY CAMBER HAS A NEW FAMILY PUPPY CAMBER is a 14 month old black and tan, spayed, female GSD. She is HW Neg, in great physical shape and ready to go to her new family. Camber is being given up by a quality family who just does not have the time for her that she needs so desperately.
Camber is basically untrained. She came to the family as an 8 week old puppy and she never received the training she needed to make her social and obedient. She is fine with other dogs and lives with a cat. She is OK with the cat but in her case the cat does not like her. She does go to doggy day care and is crate trained, but when left to her own devices she can be destructive. She is NOT people aggressive but rather way more aloof than I would like to see. She is affectionate with the family and lives with 2 small kids 5 - 7 years old respectively. She is very protective and mothering when with the kids. She herds them and protects them, especially on her own turf. She was here at the house and was noticeably aloof and distant from me but affectionate to her dad. By the end of 30 minutes she did give me her belly to rub and did want to be touched, but not at first. She does alert well and is mostly fearful in her reactions rather than aggressive. She is housebroken and gentle with the kids but she does jump and has never been shown rules nor had an alpha person for an owner. This dog is easily salvaged but you have to start her with basics and work up. She is a blank slate who thinks she makes up the rules as she goes rather than having to adhere to rules. Boot camp would do her well but moreover she needs to respect any owner who gets her and to develop a sense of her place in the pack. She thinks she is in charge and has to step up frequently but in fact she would rather be told what to do and comply. At 14 months she is easily turned around if the new owners HAVE THE TIME TO WORK WITH HER WHICH WILL TAKE 4 TO 6 MONTHS and a few 6 week class sessions. Camber weighs about 65 pounds and she is still growing. She is not toy or food aggressive and she is responsive to her name and to touch. If Camber is a dog you can work with please come see her Sunday at the Taste of Punta Gorda event or call for an appointment. She will be staying in her Ft Myers home until she is adopted.
