HANDSOME SIMBA aka JORDIE HAS A GREAT NEW FAMILY SIMBA was dumped by his family after serving and loving them for 5 years. When he was dropped he waited a the door of the shelter and would not move thinking they would return.... they didn't.
Simba will be coming here by Saturday 1/7/2017. He is a 5 year old male black and tan GSD. He has been tested for HW and as we thought he is POSITIVE. The people most likely did not care for him medically. He was covered in ticks when he arrived and had to be bathed 3x before he could even be handled. He is a loving family dog who did come from a home, but we are not positive about his being house broken. Most likely he is, but that is not a sure thing. He seems to weigh about 75 pounds and can gain a few pounds. He is affectionate and his activity level is still not known. I will know considerably more when i get him on Friday. He is reported to be dog friendly and yet untested wit cats. He did seem very interested in cats but i will know more tomorrow when I test him. In the mean time he is available immediately for adoption.

UPDATE: Simba now known as Jordie was adopted out in Feb 2017. He went to a home where they trained him, loved him and took him to get his HW shots. He was very ill when he came in but now he is in great shape and well on his way to a full recover after his HW injections. He has gone through training and has a reasonable ball drive. He is somewhat dog aggressive, but not overtly, just more fear based. He recently went into more advanced training to de-sensitize him from reacting to other dogs. That is going reasonably well but he does need a firm hand. He is also a people nipper solely to get attention. He does tend to be somewhat mouthy to get attention and because of that he was returned to us for re-homing. The issue is that he needs a strong leader with no other dogs or cats. He needs a more isolated situation where he is the only dog and the main focus of any home he gets into. Jodie is a handsome dog but does need a strong yet soft leader. He was primarily handled by a young female and he is fine with people in general. He is not aggressive with people but at this juncture unpredictable and needs a different type of home and family.
FURTHER UPDATE: Jordie has been in 'boot camp' now for 2 weeks. He is doing excellent and although he still has some issues here and there with other dogs, he is great with people, especially an experienced handler.
