NELSON HAS A COMPASSIONATE LOVING FAMILY TO CALL HIS OWN. HE HAS RECOVERED PERFECTLY AND IS TOTALLY HEALTHY THANKS TO MY FOSTER CINNIE AND BRIAN WHO FOUND HIM ON THE STREET
The Family that was considering taking him has opted out. As a young family they just felt his recovery would be more than they wanted. We will find them another dog but Nelson still needs a great family to call his own. NELSON was picked up by a worker alone on a road near Bradenton. He was obviously dumped by some inconsiderate bastard who refused to take care of him. He has a skin condition that we have seen many times in rescue dogs. It is caused by mites in the skin and yeast. The condition is not contagious and will clear up with the proper antibiotics. Left as long as this has been left, it will take a few months to resolve but it will begin to heal in 3-4 weeks time. We will have him on meds, special baths and proper food immediately and I am certain that he will get behind this awful condition.
NELSON did live with the person who found him for a few weeks time. He has proven himself as a soft gentle soul who likes other dogs and loves people. He is calm and trained, housebroken, not destructive and obedient. He has shown the person nothing but love and affection but does not get on well with his Dane. He likes the Dane, but the Dane feels he invaded his space and took attention away from him. Before there is a problem the owner/caretaker decided to ask us for help and we accepted him in rescue. I have taken on worse and in ALL CASES these dogs have become healthy happy well adjusted family members. Nelson seems to be about 4-5 years old. He had definitely lived with a family as he is comfortable in a home and knows his place. He came to us here in Punta Gorda today for transport to a foster. He was calm and exactly the way we thought he would be. He is not neutered but will be as soon as his condition resolves. He is HW Neg which is a plus. He will be treated by us medically at our expense until he is well. He will be neutered when he is in good health and he currently has all of his shots already and he is HW Neg. If you have the band width to take on a fabulous dog who needs your help, please let us know as we will have him in rescue on 10/18/16 and he will be fostered in Estero. Even during this condition he can be adopted and we will still treat him medically for all conditions.
UPDATE: NELSON was at the adoption event for these last few days. He met 100 people and 100 dogs and cats and he loved it. he did get a bit tired on Saturday so he was taken home. He will be at the vets tomorrow for his shots, ear infection treatment and neuter and he will then be available immediately. His face has almost grown in completely and next will come his ears which are just showing hair growth. He is cute as a button ad a happy dog. He needs a family to call his own so if you want a great companion who is loving and calm, great with people, kids and dogs, well Nelson is your man,
