MAX NEEDS A NEW HOME AND FAMILY
UPDATE; DUE TO THE HURRICANE HE DID NOT COME IN THIS WEEK. WE ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE FAMILY WHO WAS TO DELIVER HIM.
10/10/16 UPDATE: SINCE WE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE FAMILY IN OVER A WEEK WE ASSUME THAT THEY MADE OTHER PLANS FOR MAX OR DECIDED TO KEEP HIM THEMSELVES. EITHER WAY I AM SURE MAX IS IN GOOD HANDS BUT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE RESCUE UNTIL THE FAMILY HAS DECIDED WHAT TO DO WITH HIM. Max was discovered out in a field in Homestead covered with dirt and in really bad shape. He had been on the street for some time and had a collar choking him that had to be removed. he had a rope burn on his neck which will heal and disappear in a few days time. Max was alone and came to a kind person who took him home to meet her GSD. She cleaned him up, fed him and all on good faith as she had no idea about his personality or compatibility with her family dog.
Max as she named him turned out to be extremely grateful to be rescued and in a loving home. Unfortunately that home was a small apartment where it just was not practical for him to stay permanently. For the week or so he was there he played with her kids, their friends and loved her black 2 year old GSD. He ate well, got cleaned up and showed his true temperament which is that of a loving family dog. He has one hand up and that being he barks at smaller dogs so we DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM IN A HOME WITH LITTLE DOGS OR CATS, even though he is yet untested in both areas. He is coming here Wednesday 10/5/16 and he will be neutered on 10/7, his new luck day.
Max is about 2 years old. He needs to gain some weight but is about 65 pounds where he should be 75-80. He is black and tan with a defined saddle. His temperament with kids and people is just fantastic and I believe that with some basic training he will adapt to smaller dogs, but at this time I can only relate to what he knows and what I know about him.
He has not been tested for heart worm but even if he is positive we will treat that. He will receive all shots and a chip on Thursday and he will be ready to go home Thursday night or thereafter.
We may take him to the Mutini Mingle at Fisherman's Village Wed evening, but that is not certain yet.
I believe this dog needs to go to a family with kids but one who has experience with GSD's and who will do the training we require to get him polished into the gem he truly can be.
