LUCY NEEDS A NEW HOME AND FAMILY

UPDATE LUCY HAS A MEDICAL ISSUE AND HER OFFER TO ADOPT IS SUSPENDED UNTIL THAT IS RESOLVED Lucy came into the rescue today in need of a new home. She is a 9 year old female, black and tan GSD. She in in good health and has ye to be heart worm tested. She is also going to be spayed this week and we will know the results of both by weeks end.
Lucy was purchased from a breeder in PA 9 years ago. She moved to FL 4 years ago and has been living in a home since. She has not got to any dog parks or had any activities which does present a problem when meeting other dogs. She met Rudy today who is our stability dog and she did bark at him. We believe that her bark was more from fear and complete lack of training than for any other reason. We DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT SHE GO TO A HOUSEHOLD WITH CATS OR SMALL DOGS as we do not know how she will react. She need obedience training desperately and does not walk well on a leash, she does not know basic commands and she was really never in a position to learn to do fun dog things. She is an intelligent dog and with 6 weeks of basic training will become a pleasure to have around. She is very devoted to her male owner. She has lived with smaller kids and now with a teenager. She is housebroken and not at all destructive. She was never crate trained but has never had accidents in the home and waits patiently for the owner to return from work which is typically an 8 hour day. She is very social with people and came right to both Diane and I when we first met. She likes to ride in the car and to be near and in the company of people. She likes being petted and enjoys attention. From what we understand she does not particularly like going to the vet but tolerates it. She weighs about 70 pounds and can easily gain 5-7 pounds as she looks a bit thin. I feel that she would be best in a home with some OLDER FOLKS WHOSE ACTIVITIES ARE LIMITED AND WITH SOME GSD EXPERIENCE. She definitely has to go to training immediately so she can be all the things she is capable of. This is a sweet dog who will make a great pet. If you have such a home and would like to meet Lucy, please call me for an appointment.
