BIG BRUCE HAS SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM

UPDATE BRUCE IS MY BUDDIES PAT CENTER AS A FOSTER IN PORT CHARLOTTE. HE WAS SEEN LAST EVENING AND THE PERSON WAS EXCITED TO SEE HIM.... HE NEVER SHOWED UP SO BIG BRUCE REMAINS AVAILABLE

UPDATE AFTER QUITE SOME TIME AND LOTS OF LOOKING AROUND WE WERE REWARDED LAST EVENING AT THE MUTTINY MINGLE AT FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE TO FIND A GREAT FAMILY TO ADOPT BIG BRUCE. Bruce came to us initially in Feb. 2016 from Sarasota. He was about to be put down because no one wanted him, not even a rescue. They didn't want him because of his size and eyes but what they saw as negatives I saw as a beautiful spirit and a great dog.
Bruce weighs 110. pounds today. He was a porker but he is now trim and active. We are not quite sure why he was fat as he had been on the street.
He was subsequently adopted to a loving family. Bruce had an incident with his mom that scared her and she decided to return him to us. The incident was not aggression nor a bite. While she was pilling him he was startled and with her hand in his mouth she pulled away as did he and she got a cut on her arm from his canines. I feel it is important to say this because this is NOT by any means an aggressive dog, quite to the contrary, he is a sweet boy, bonded to the dad, now trained, obedient and well groomed and healthy.
He has a condition in his eyes called Pannus which is a treatable condition with steroid eye drops. He has been treated now for months and the condition is all but gone. It DOES REQUIRE DROPS be administered daily but they are not expensive and extremely effective. If gone unchecked he could have gone blind, but he is sighted and the only thing suffering at this time is possibly his depth perception. HIS BLOOD WORK CAME BACK FINE AND WE NOW KNOW THAT THE ONLY ISSUE HE HAS IS HIS EYE SIGHT. His heart and lungs are fine. He had a blood work up today at our private vet and although he is HW POS, They feel treatment with Heartguard for a year will clear up his issues nicely. He has now been on the medication for 6 months. We can also treat him with shots, but that is down the road and after he is adopted.
Bruce is sweet, He is currently in a foster with 3 others dogs, and is doing exceptionally well. He likes people and dogs and seem totally fine with cats. He was living with 3 smaller dogs and a few cats in his foster home before his initial adoption. Bruce walks well on a leash and had had some training. He has now gone through 6 weeks of basic obedience and is well schooled in basic commands. He needs a family that is way more sedentary but would walk him daily to keep up his training and exercise his joints to keep him limber. The adopter also needs to understand his eye condition and care for him. He appears to be 6-7 years old (not more) and he needs to loose 10 more pounds. He has been groomed and looks very handsome. It took me 1.5 hours to groom and bathe him initially, and it was done regularly by his prior family.. He looks fabulous. He is not a jumper and is very polite. He is a SOFT DOG WHO NEEDS A FAMILY WHO WILL LOVE AND UNDERSTAND HIS SHORTCOMINGS. He is a lover and likes to be petted and to be touched. If you have an open heart for a great dog who just needs you as much as your family may need him, please call us to meet him asap.
