RANGER 1 HAS A HOME AND A SPECIAL FAMILY
training Update: RANGER IS IN BOOT CAMP WITH BREEZY ROACH IN CAPE CORAL. HE MAY BE ACCEPTED INTO THEIR WORKING DOG PROGRAM, IF SO HE WOULD BE REMOVED FROM OUR ADOPTION LIST.
update We have a family coming Tuesday to see him. He graduated from Obedience School with Breezy Roach and is ready to go to his new home. Ranger originally came into our rescue right near the beginning of the year. He was relinquished from a home with small children and he had every advantage and lots of love. The reason he was turned over initially stemmed from his total lack of training and socialization as a puppy.
The original owners did nothing at all for the dog and wound up letting him hang around a crate for his young life. Ranger is a 2 year old high energy black and tan neutered GSD. He weighs about 80 pounds and is solid muscle. He has some training but definitely needs an alpha person to handle his boundless energy AND WE SUGGEST NO OTHER PETS. We have now seen that energy level manifest itself in dog aggression which is concerning us which is why we do not wish to rehome him to anyone with pets. WE BELIEVE THAT HE CAN BE TURNED AROUND but that will take 6 months to a year of training and constant supervision to get the issues under control. He would also be a candidate for doggy boot camp. His high drive means that unless he is being trained or occupied he gets into trouble. He is crate trained and should remain in the crate or a fenced yard when not being with the family but rest assure he is a wonderful dog who just has no manners and would not be suitable for a family with other dogs, cats or young kids. He needs a firm handler and an alpha home. He can easily learn but must be handled by someone who is alpha and has control of him under all situations. He loves people and is super friendly. He is not dog friendly at first but can be OK if introduced properly. He needs to be introduced slowly and then he is just fine. He likes car rides and kids, ball and toys and he is housebroken. He has been a digger in the yard and needs to be crated when inside so that he has no run in's with furniture and delicate items. He is is a baby and like a bull in a china shop needs to know the rules and obey them. He has all shots, he is chipped and heart worm, negative.
If this handsome young yet challenging dog meets your needs please let us know.
HE HAS BEEN IN 2 HOMES WITH US AND HE IS NOW in boot camp to re-learn social skills and obedience His last family did work out well but the primary care giver was called back up north to take care of a family member and there is little chance of his quick return which has caused him to return Ranger to us. Ranger is a smart dog and he is doing quite well in boot camp.
