DORA THE EXPLORER NEEDS A NEW FAMILY DORA is an adorable black 1.5 year old female GSD. She is not yet spayed but will be in a few weeks time. She is otherwise healthy but has to also have her shots and some TLC. She came to us as a lost dog with no clip or owner to verify her medical condition. She was obviously left outside for her entire life but does seem not to want to go unless she is outside. She did stay with a foster for a day and didn't go in the house. She was also fostered for a few days with a kind compassionate person that was able to get all the information we need to best describe her. We do know she is not housebroken and does go immediately after eating. Anyone taking her would have to take her out immediately after meals. She is super loving and plays and interacts well with dogs and even cats. She is sweet and playful to a fault and requires 24/7 attention and immediate training. I am going to try and get her into a boot camp to get her under control, but any adopter must understand that she is highly intelligent and very active. She will go into a crate but is not happy about it. She whines and barks when confined but she can be destructive when left in the house unattended. She was obviously an outside dog and as such has no manners. She is a kind dog who only wants to please you. She just cannot figure out what to do or how to do it. She is a kisser and licker and is affectionate at every level and with everyone.
She would NOT be a suitable pet for a household where she is left alone for hours, crated or not, or has small children as she is a clutz and would knock a small child over just by leaning or plowing through from point to point. She did eat a leather leash and a TV Clicker yesterday.
Dora is god with cats and swims like a fish. She blows bubbles and stick her head under water. She needs a physical outlet such as biking or swimming because even though the foster played ball with her for almost 3 hours, she was still in high gear ready to have the next activity served up. She likes kids and other dogs and takes to everyone readily. She is a sweet dog but does jump a bit and needs training but she is totally social and loving immediately on meeting anyone.
She need immediate training and requires an alpha personality to teach her. She is smart and clever, cunning and focused and will bond completely and become a fabulous companion to anyone who can harness that ball of energy.
The fact that a prospective owner must be alpha and dominate, available for her for most of the day and dedicate the first 2-3 months of ownership to her training is an imperative with Dora.
If you are that person, seeking a fabulous dog then please please reach out to me as quickly as possible.
Dora does sit and give you her paw and belly on command and walks well on a pinch collar but pulls on a regular lead. As stated, she had no formal training but responds to treats and praise. Medically she has some severe fly bite dermatitis on her ear tips which will heal and repair itself about 50%. It is only remarkably on the back and not visible from the front.
This is one fantastic dog but needs a special owner or family. She is available immediately.
