WHAT WE FEED OUR DOGS AND RESCUE DOGS I have been asked 100 times what we feed our dogs when people get a dog from us. i have consistently recommend that they stay away from crappy brands like Ole ZRoy and other garbage because it is more nutritional to eat the packaging than the food. Stay away from grains or foods with grains of any kind as the first ingredient.
For the first 3 years of our rescue we were feeding Fromms. A very fine US Made food that was salmon and sweet potatoes. They make other versions but that's the one we chose. We had great success with it except with our Golden who needs a special vet food called Purina DRM. Most dogs do not have the allergies that Clancy has so we kept everyone on Fromms. I was told about 4 years ago that Kirkland food was excellent and at a great price. We looked at the ingredients and found it to be basically the same as Fromms and we tried it, first blending it and then switching to it all together. We have had nothing but success with it. Our dogs gobble it up, they have great coats, solid poops, proper weight gain and they are in excellent health. You can read more on this food at : http://dogfood.guru/kirkland/
Dog food can be a controversial topic because there are purists out there who have opinions of what to feed, how to train, what to do and of course they are always right. For the rest of us i suggest this brand if you have a Costco around your home. The cost is $1 a pound which is 1/2 of Fromms and for us it has become the go-to food of choice. Remember that GSD's have weak stomachs so choose the food you feed based on your animals tolerance for the content and any and all health concerns.
