SOPHIE 2 NEEDS A NEW HOME AND FAMILY
we have a family comnig to see her Monday at 3pm Sophie's case is a bit heart breaking but the reality is she needs to be re-homed.
Sophie's owner has been in the hospital in intensive care for a few months in Lakeland. His wife makes the trip numerous times per seek and has become burned out with her responsibilities to Sophie and to her husband. The prognosis is not good for him and they have made a decision to re-home Sophie for her own good.
Sophie is a 7 year old female black and tan GSD. She is 15 pounds over weight and in otherwise good shape. She is up to date on all shots, spayed and heart worm negative. She is in otherwise good health except for her weight. She has had really limited to no exercise in months and just languishes in the home alone with their 4 cats. She is a cat friendly dog, yet at the same time is not keen on small yappy dogs and therefore we would NOT place her in a home with other animals except for dog friendly cats.
Sophie did get attacked by a small dog while being walked. She was on the lead the other dog was not. The other dog weighed 3 pounds and did not survive the altercation. This was a situation that regretfully was the fault of the dog owner who let their dog run without a lead and t was known to aggressively bark and go after other dogs.
This happen to me 3 weeks ago causing me to fall off my bike, again caused by an irresponsible person allowing their dog to run free without any verbal or barrier control.
Sophie has been in the family for 90% of her life and has never been involved with any similar situation. He boredom, lack of proper training and circumstances caused her to be walked by friends who were not used to dealing with a 85 pound GSD. Sophie is somewhat trained but on a scale of 1 -10 she is a barely 1. She has never had proper socialization training and she has 2 very weak leaders as owners. She needs to go into training immediately for leash walking, socialization and learning commands.
She has lived with children all of her life. They have 11 grandchildren and 4 cats. She loves kids and is warm to people. She took a few minutes to totally warm up to me. She likes water and used to live at the beach in NY. She is not destructive, crate trained and not food or toy aggressive at any level.
If you have a family suitable for am active but middle aged loving girl, please let us know.
