SOPHIE IS ADOPTED
UPDATE: We had a family that took her but SHE FAILED TO ACCEPT THEIR CATS AND SHE HAS BEEN RETURNED.
Sophie is a 65 pound black and tan female GSD. She is about 2 years old maximum and is recovering from her heart worm shots. She needs to be rested for about 3-4 weeks and after which she will be in perfect health. She is calm and sweet and likes people and seems to like other bigger dogs. SHE IS NOT TO BE REHOMED WITH CATS She was non reactive when exposed to some smaller dogs but when she lived with one for 4 weeks time she just didn't get along with him and was returned to us. She has been with a pack of 8 dogs and 6 tiny puppies for 8 days and she has done extremely well. The smaller dog was quite a bit older and really never took to her. The smaller dog was definitely alpha and Sophie was having none of it. She is NOT AT ALL GOOD with cats. She is great with our dogs and yet when introduced to aggressive smaller dogs she becomes nervous. If you have a smaller dog or cat we believe that unless the dog is passive and totally calm that she is better placed with a family with another larger dog, especially a GSD. She was spayed about 4 weeks ago and will be available immediately. She was given all shots and she was chipped. We will be treating her for heart worm in Ft Myers on 2/2 and as such she will need 4-5 weeks of rest before resuming normal activities. She was originally picked up as a street stray in Lee County and never claimed. She is one of those dogs that you immediately fall in love with. Her soft eyes and calm demeanor make her a perfect pet. She does also have a cataract issue in one eye which does not seem to affect her in any way, but will have to be considered by any adoptive family some time in the future. Today she learned how to go up and down steps and she is working on doggy door. If I am motivated I may teach her to swim. She got her Christmas present and was happy to be part of our pack for a few days. If you have an interest in a calm dog, please give us a call asap at 941 575 0243 to get your interview in to meet her. We are concerned that she go to homes with only larger dogs rather than ankle biters.
