The County Commissioners of Charlotte have an agenda of death to strays If you wish to help vote the current Charlotte County Commissioners out of office!

The AWL is funded by donations. they have performed the function of Animal housing, treatment and care for Charlotte County for 50 years this year and we are celebrating at the November 9th Black and Gold Gala.... but wait a minute. Charlotte County Commissioners are trying to shut down the AWL by cutting funding and moving all adoptable strays to certain death in Desoto County. I am not saying people in Desoto are the bad guys, they are far smaller a county than Charlotte with a different demographic make p. More Animals are adopted here then there and their shelter is far smaller. Their facility is more like a pound where they euthanize most animals (upward of 80%) now and with the 3000 more from Charlotte, that percentage will rise to 90%.
If you wish to help, please write letters to the commissioners saying WE WANT THE AWL TO REMAIN IN TACT AS IS. PLEASE ALSO ATTEND THE 7/23 VOTING MEETING AT THE COMMISSIONERS CHAMBERS IN MURDOCK AT 9AM.

Here are their email address and a sample letter:

Dear Commissioner:
As a citizen and tax-payer I want my voice heard. I urge you to approve the proposed contract with the Animal Welfare League. It is the best option for the animals and citizens of this county.

We are opposed to the homeless, stray and abandoned animals of Charlotte County being left on the streets or shipped to Desoto County for disposition.

With a more than 70% kill rate now, Desoto cannot handle animals from their own community. What will happen when their volume increases? How many Charlotte county residents will travel all that way to adopt an animal? You will be sending all these helpless animals to their death.

TNR is an effort to save feral cats. It wasn’t created to give the county free reign to leave thousands of adoptable cats on the streets.

Give all these creatures a chance.

Again, I urge to do the right thing and vote “YES” to the Animal Welfare League contract proposal.

Sincerely,
