BETSY FINDS A FOREVER HOME I am writing this story somewhat after the fact as Betsy has been already been adopted. What is remarkable about this story however is that somehow against all odds, the dogs that come through our door seem to always find the right homes and families. Yes there have been some mistakes, but 95% of the time we seem to get it right! This was one of those cases.
Becky was taken in by animal control after a kind and compassionate woman saw (witnessed) her being dumped from a car. She called us from the net number and animal control so that the dog would not be hit by a car. When Becky was found she had her ears mutilated by a sick bastard who should be shot, and whose agonizing death I will pray for daily. She was left bleeding, scared and in pain, alone and defenseless by this piece of crap for no reason. Animal control quickly retrieved her and called us to confirm her recovery. We were forced to wait the normal period required by law before we could rescue her. Knowing that she would not be claimed I waited the time and got her.
When the time came to get her, I went to the shelter and evaluated her for temperament, as you can never be sure that her trauma would not have manifested itself in a personality change. During the time I was focused on getting her in, I was working on doing an interview with a family coming in from our of town for a dog. I had not really had the right dog for them at that time, but they agreed to make the trip to get the interview done so we could begin our search. Just as I left the shelter, convinced that Becky was a perfect 10, they called. It was like destiny and a clear message. I felt compelled to share her story, explain her injuries and temperament and see if they may be interested in seeing her. Miguel said absolutely. He and his wife Lisa were able to recognize the value of a great dog short of cosmetic perfection. They agree to come in for a face to face visit and the rest is history When I presented her to them by email, I shared pictures of the injuries and explained her qualities. They immediately saw what I saw and came to see her.
The family simply fell in love with her, and what's not to love? This great girl bonded quickly with them and their kids. It was reassuring to see how when good values are taught to kids just how they can look through issues and into their hearts to accept a dog with some visual cosmetic defects. I explained that her injuries will heal and will become less visible. I told them how when we took in Ebo what he looked like and then I showed them what he had become. The match was tremendous and the timing was perfect. I could not be happier that Becky went to such a great home. I kissed her goodbye and out she went, number 21 for 2013.
